Hey guys! The November Sephora sale has begun for VIB Rouge (today is the last day of the Rouge weekends using code ROUGEBONUS) and I’ve decided my first recommendation post will be about holy grail, popular, cult favorite makeup products I’ve noticed regularly sell out during VIB sales. VIB Shoppers will be able to shop November 9-12th, and VIB Rouge will be excluded from using their codes during that time. Let’s get into it! I’ve split this up amongst categories for ease. Primers, Foundations and Concealers My favorite foundations are almost all available at Sephora, so they’re included in the widget below, as well as a few that I know friends and family love. Right now, I’m personally using the Nars Sheer Glow foundation (in “siberia”, bless me). Powder Products – Blushes, Bronzers and Finishing Powders I love a good blush and bronzer, and recently I’ve been liking certain finishing powders…

Hey guys! This is one of those situations where I really love something and I’m almost afraid to tell you because it is so good but also so expensive. And I’m the Broke Girl Blog, after all… is more mid to high end beauty products “on brand”? Probably not, but I love to be honest and transparent about what I’m loving, even if it’s an expensive face powder, because I feel like I owe that to the people who pop over here to read my blog. Of course I’m talking about the much hyped, widely loved, Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting powder. This powder is $55 Canadian for 10.5 grams. Ok, before I go too far into the price of this item and compare it to other options… let’s talk about why I love it so much! Reason #1 is that this is a translucent powder- I have quite light skin, and I…

Hey guys! This is a bit of a surprise post I imagine for a lot of us- I certainly didn’t realize until I got my VIB Rouge email that there was a Sephora VIB sale occurring this month at all! The sale opened for VIB Rouge members last Friday and will continue offering 20% off with the code YESROUGE until September 3rd- this time, the code is single-use online, and unlimited use in-store. Sneaky Sephora on that single-use thing for online. VIB Insiders can start enjoying their 15% off on August 30th using the code YESVIB, and Beauty Insiders will receive 10% off if they use the code YESINSIDER. Since this is generally the most generous discounts available for the year, I like to consider this sale as my “stock up” sale, because I’ll buy things that I will need to buy anyhow- skin products, my everyday foundation, powder, mascara. Anything new…

Hey Guys! I wanted to share a quick take on some things I’ve been loving so far this summer! The summertime is always a fun time for me, full of gazebo nights at my parents place, pared down makeup, fun summer fashion and loads of time out in the sunshine. I recorded a Youtube Video (subscribe here) talking all about my favorites! Check the video out below. These are the exact shorts I was mentioning. You can read all about the health benefits of dried apricots here. If you want to check out Em Sheldon’s content, you can check out her Instagram, Youtube and Twitter in addition to her blog! What are your favorites for the summer months?

Hellloooo! Today I’m back with my favorites from the month of March, only about halfway through April. I debated on finishing this video and post since while these are FAVORITES, I’m also at least 2 weeks late! Life has been pretty busy. But so many of these items are new to me, or never mentioned before on this blog that I felt like it was really still worth putting this post up to share my favorites. Skincare: Recently I’ve been using a combination of this Biotherm serum and a Biotherm night cream to combat my ridiculously dry skin. I love the combo because it’s starting to breathe some light back into my sad and angry skin which is so appreciated. My night cream is no longer available, but I’d love to try this one! Haircare: I’ve been loving the Big Sexy Hair Weather Proof spray! It’s meant to protect your…

Hi Guys! I’m back with another favorites post, this time talking about some of the items I loved through January and February. Rockstar 24/7 Jeans for Women • Old Navy •  in Black – These are the jeans I replaced my black Walmart jeggings with after I wore them into death. I’m working on repairing them, and also a video/post combo about 5 different ways to style a $40 pair of black jeans! Driving Loafers for Women • Old Navy •  – I love these shoes. I think I said eighty times in the video how comfortable they are. My chiropractor would probably be unimpressed with the lack of support, so maybe don’t go walking 5km in them like I have, but they are a good shoe with a slip-proof sole which I really appreciate. Luxe Studs •  – These studs were a sweet Christmas gift from little Sylvie and I’m…

Hey Guys! Time for another Real Girl Review! This time I’ll be taking a look at the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom palette. My sister recently got me this palette as a gift as a thank you for helping her out when Sylvie was very newly home and wanted to do nothing more than howl and cry. All night long. Fun fact about me: I can sleep through pretty much anything. I can also fall asleep in some pretty ridiculous conditions. A howling dog? No biggie. My sister is a light sleeper, so when Sylvie first came home, so did I as her puppy au pair. Nobody can live on zero sleep! The fact that she had a sweet puppy to snuggle and love had a lot to do with it too. I’m obsessed with this dog, guys. So, back to the point of this: my sister got me the…

Hi Guys! I’m finally getting to posting my 2017 “Favorites”, or the best of 2017. This year, I have three main categories. They’re makeup, skincare and fashion- but I have some favorites in the haircare category as well as a few random things to share that I’ve loved all year. For full information on why I loved each item, check out my video: Makeup: HOURGLASS Ambient(R) – Dim Light Lighting Powder • Hourglass • BECCA X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette • Becca • Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder • Laura Mercier • Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette • Too Faced • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer • Maybelline • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer • M·A·C • L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation • L’Oreal • Skincare: Biotherm Life Plankton Mask Philosophy ‘purity Made Simple’ One-Step Facial Cleanser • philosophy • Garnier SkinActive Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream • Garnier • Aquaphor…

Hey guys!   Today I’m sharing my final post in my Real Girl Review roundup of gel-alternative nail polishes! This last experience is with the OPI Infinite Shine 2 polishes! They are marketed to last 11 days which seems an odd number, but they are specifically stated to be “gel-like”. My sister picked up this color and the starter set of the base and top coat at Sally Beauty supply and I’ve tried it a couple of times now. The first difference is that you need to use a base coat and a top coat, the duo pack of which will cost $19.99. Then, you’ll need a color, which will cost about $13, and there are 150+ to choose from! Keeping everything the same to my last two posts, a once-monthly salon gel manicure will cost you about $420 a year. With the $13 per color and $20 set of base…

Hey Guys! So I have to be honest- I started testing and researching to write this post in AUGUST. I know, it is now late December. Makeup brushes are a tricky thing, though. I want to use them a bunch and wash them a bunch and force a friend or family member to try one or two (sorry to my sister) for a second opinion to make sure I’m not being biased. So, if I’m going to talk about a makeup brush, I’m going to spend the time to thoroughly check them out. To be transparent, Mikasa Beauty reached out to me in August to offer me a discount and some free product, because they thought I might like their brand. A quick google search showed me that their brushes are affordable and the company is Canadian, two things I freaking love, and so I really wanted to try them…
