Hey guys! This is one of those situations where I really love something and I’m almost afraid to tell you because it is so good but also so expensive. And I’m the Broke Girl Blog, after all… is more mid to high end beauty products “on brand”? Probably not, but I love to be honest and transparent about what I’m loving, even if it’s an expensive face powder, because I feel like I owe that to the people who pop over here to read my blog. Of course I’m talking about the much hyped, widely loved, Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting powder. This powder is $55 Canadian for 10.5 grams.

Ok, before I go too far into the price of this item and compare it to other options… let’s talk about why I love it so much! Reason #1 is that this is a translucent powder- I have quite light skin, and I find a lot of powders for light skinned individuals are very pink, and my skin is pink enough on its own. Especially if I laugh, jog, breathe… do anything but sit perfectly still in a climate controlled room. Alternatively, it’s also super hard to find something that is truly light enough and doesn’t oxidize. I don’t have that problem with this powder because it’s translucent. Reason #2 is how flawless this powder makes my skin seem. I’ve been having some issues with texture and blemishes lately, and this powder just glides over, doesn’t accentuate texture and actually somehow camouflages my dry patches? It’s amazing. I heard someone describe it as an “insta-filter in a powder” and I honestly kinda agree! Reason # 3 is actually the packaging, and not in a bougee “oh this is so pretty” kind of way but actually how the lid has a silicon “stopper” to hold the powder under the netting when you have the lid screwed on. This keeps things from getting to messy! I will say, this is not the case with the travel sized version, though.

Now… let’s talk about the $$$. Again, this powder is $55 Canadian for 10.5 grams, which is about $5.23 per gram of product. Remember how I said the Becca Set and Refresh Powder was expensive? Yeah this is 63 cents more expensive per gram. And I talked about other powders in that post that were MUCH more affordable. So is the superior packaging, smooth and gorgeous formula and ability to make me look flawless worth the extra coin? For me, I won’t be buying the large size any time soon- I bought the miniature version which is $22, and more than enough product for my uses for a year. So from that viewpoint, being able to get a small size, I do think it’s a worthwhile purchase- I just don’t know that I’d be pulling the trigger for $55 on a powder at the current time. We’ll see what I do when the VIB sale comes around next year!

Have you tried this product before? Let me know what you thought!
