Helllloooo internet friends!

First off, welcome to the newly redesigned TheBrokeGirlBlog.com! The change that you’ve been seeing since last week was a months-long labor of love finding the right user interface and doing the back end work necessary to whip this little corner of the internet into a space that can grow with me now that more people are checking out what’s going on here. Life lesson from this one: asking for help is ok, even when you could do it yourself.

So what else has been going on since I last did an update post in mid-January? Well, chronologically:

Dad and I volunteered at our yearly event supporting a youth robotics group. I love the opportunity to pitch in at an event that encourages our youth to consider careers in science, computing, engineering and applied trades. It’s ultra-cool that it’s held at my work!

If you didn’t see me incessantly tweeting about how proud I am about it, on January 24th I gave blood for the very first time!

Snow continued to fall from January through until last night (April 10th). I am tired of snow.

The entire family took a New Orlean’s cooking class as a Christmas gift from Dad! It was so fun, and we learned how to make beignets, shrimp etouffee and chicken diane.

Sylvie got her first “big girl” full grooming in early February. She looked so adorable clipped down!

In early March my parents got a custom closet, which meant I inherited some closet organizers! I’m so excited about having a more organized closet. Maybe now that things are getting beaten into shape (3 years later) in my upper floor, I’ll finally do a house tour?

Dad and I had a fun night where we went to Tres Carnales and then checked out the Redbull Crashed Ice track! It was so fun, and we got to ride the river valley funicular. You’ll be able to see more in my upcoming March Recap vlog, which is hopefully being edited and posted this week!

Mid-March saw the axe dropped on my eating/living habits. I’ve been having some weird health symptoms going on for a long time now so I’ve been sent for many tests and to manage the symptoms while it’s being figured out what’s up with me, I’ve been put on a pretty specific eating regimen. I’d say I follow it 4/7 days of the week? Maybe. It includes “very occasional drinking” and we know I like wine sooo…. Surprisingly though, as an update, the first week I lost 7 pounds while following the instructions of my dietitian and doctor pretty strictly and I’ve kept that off despite being a bit of a gong-show since then… I’m considering doing a whole post about what’s going on and what I’ve been eating/doing to support my basic caloric/nutrient intake while eating mostly vegetables and un-refined grains.

Sweet sweet Sylvie was spayed on March 22. Cue me being a big baby about it.

My attic saga continued and on March 26th I took a day off of work due to contractors coming in.

On April 5th, after a brief hospital stay due to a fall she had sustained, my maternal grandmother passed away.

Duck themed diaper cake

On April 7th, I got to celebrate my  cousin Danielle and her husband Chad’s soon-to-arrive baby boy! I can’t wait to meet the little one. We made them a super-fun diaper cake!
