Hey guys! This is one of those situations where I really love something and I’m almost afraid to tell you because it is so good but also so expensive. And I’m the Broke Girl Blog, after all… is more mid to high end beauty products “on brand”? Probably not, but I love to be honest and transparent about what I’m loving, even if it’s an expensive face powder, because I feel like I owe that to the people who pop over here to read my blog. Of course I’m talking about the much hyped, widely loved, Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting powder. This powder is $55 Canadian for 10.5 grams. Ok, before I go too far into the price of this item and compare it to other options… let’s talk about why I love it so much! Reason #1 is that this is a translucent powder- I have quite light skin, and I…

Hey guys! This is a bit of a surprise post I imagine for a lot of us- I certainly didn’t realize until I got my VIB Rouge email that there was a Sephora VIB sale occurring this month at all! The sale opened for VIB Rouge members last Friday and will continue offering 20% off with the code YESROUGE until September 3rd- this time, the code is single-use online, and unlimited use in-store. Sneaky Sephora on that single-use thing for online. VIB Insiders can start enjoying their 15% off on August 30th using the code YESVIB, and Beauty Insiders will receive 10% off if they use the code YESINSIDER. Since this is generally the most generous discounts available for the year, I like to consider this sale as my “stock up” sale, because I’ll buy things that I will need to buy anyhow- skin products, my everyday foundation, powder, mascara. Anything new…

Hey Guys! Time for another Real Girl Review! This time I’ll be taking a look at the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom palette. My sister recently got me this palette as a gift as a thank you for helping her out when Sylvie was very newly home and wanted to do nothing more than howl and cry. All night long. Fun fact about me: I can sleep through pretty much anything. I can also fall asleep in some pretty ridiculous conditions. A howling dog? No biggie. My sister is a light sleeper, so when Sylvie first came home, so did I as her puppy au pair. Nobody can live on zero sleep! The fact that she had a sweet puppy to snuggle and love had a lot to do with it too. I’m obsessed with this dog, guys. So, back to the point of this: my sister got me the…

Hey Guys! So I have to be honest- I started testing and researching to write this post in AUGUST. I know, it is now late December. Makeup brushes are a tricky thing, though. I want to use them a bunch and wash them a bunch and force a friend or family member to try one or two (sorry to my sister) for a second opinion to make sure I’m not being biased. So, if I’m going to talk about a makeup brush, I’m going to spend the time to thoroughly check them out. To be transparent, Mikasa Beauty reached out to me in August to offer me a discount and some free product, because they thought I might like their brand. A quick google search showed me that their brushes are affordable and the company is Canadian, two things I freaking love, and so I really wanted to try them…

Hi guys! Are you as excited as I am for the Sephora Sale?! I thought I’d start out with my favorite category of all… MAKEUP! Most people know that I love makeup, despite being known to roll around with a bare face pretty often (I just did a no-makeup October!). The Sephora sale is a great opportunity to stock up on regularly used items to have some product backups, or try that new item you’ve been coveting. For those that don’t know, the Sephora VIB Rouge sale just ended and the Sephora VIB sale will be starting on Friday, November 10th and is 20% off all merchandise! Like last year, I’m sharing my favorite items, friend favorites and some items I’d love to try. I’ll post a review of new items ordered in the Sephora sale, whether by my sister or myself, maybe as a video or in Real Girl…

Hey guys! And welcome to my newest post series here on the blog- Real Girl Reviews. I’m going to be trying out products that any woman (or dude!) could be interested in and giving my opinion on if it is worth your money! The “real girl” part of it comes from being in my late 20s and on a small budget.  You had better believe that a product has to look good on skin that isn’t 18 anymore and be good value to get the nod of approval from me.  Sometimes I feel opinions unconstrained by budget just aren’t as exacting as those that are. The first product up is from one  of my favorite humans ever- Chrissy Teigen’s Becca collaboration. While I am totally biased because I love all things Chrissy Teigen, I feel this particular pallette is worth the buy on two fronts: This pallette offers pretty much…

Hey guys! I wanted to do a post about what I love from Mac, and what I think you could probably get for cheaper or elsewhere and get a similar result/product. Sometimes living well for less isn’t just about not buying things, sometimes it’s about being smart about what you do buy. Check out my video and the links below for more information! I’m sorry the quality looks bad at the end! I SWEAR I wasn’t trying to obscure my identity, it was just by chance that the camera went out of focus right when I started talking crap. One day I’m going to get the hang of this. For those of you sick of my Sephora sale posts, rejoice, since this is the last one! My fellow makeup lovers can be sad with me haha. Today’s post is a gift guide of sorts (more of these coming as we fly along to the Christmas holiday) for those that may have a beauty lover to buy for! I love it when I can buy a Christmas or birthday present on sale! Since a bunch of these are limited edition items or very expensive, I haven’t tried most of them. But I wanted to share what I’d get a friend or family member. Some of these are holiday gift sets and some are luxury items that make my insides turn they’re so expensive, but are well rated online and cult favorites. Hey all! Finally, possibly my favorite part of the Sephora VIB Sale! Anyone who knows me knows that I loooove makeup. I dialed it back a ton for my old job to a more simple, chic and natural look but I love a smoky eye, experimenting with different shades of bright or dark lipsticks, contouring, highlighting etc etc… I love it all. It was so hard to choose just five items for each category, so I stuck with my everyday favorites for the ones I am recommending. These items are either something I use every day, use so much I buy 2 or more per year (which is why I’d buy two during the VIB sale) or both. Estee Lauder’s Double Wear is a total mainstay for loads of girls- although admittedly usually for oily skinned beauties! I love it even though I’m dry for its crazy staying power- it…
