Hey guys! This is one of those situations where I really love something and I’m almost afraid to tell you because it is so good but also so expensive. And I’m the Broke Girl Blog, after all… is more mid to high end beauty products “on brand”? Probably not, but I love to be honest and transparent about what I’m loving, even if it’s an expensive face powder, because I feel like I owe that to the people who pop over here to read my blog. Of course I’m talking about the much hyped, widely loved, Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting powder. This powder is $55 Canadian for 10.5 grams. Ok, before I go too far into the price of this item and compare it to other options… let’s talk about why I love it so much! Reason #1 is that this is a translucent powder- I have quite light skin, and I…

Hey guys!   Today I’m sharing my final post in my Real Girl Review roundup of gel-alternative nail polishes! This last experience is with the OPI Infinite Shine 2 polishes! They are marketed to last 11 days which seems an odd number, but they are specifically stated to be “gel-like”. My sister picked up this color and the starter set of the base and top coat at Sally Beauty supply and I’ve tried it a couple of times now. The first difference is that you need to use a base coat and a top coat, the duo pack of which will cost $19.99. Then, you’ll need a color, which will cost about $13, and there are 150+ to choose from! Keeping everything the same to my last two posts, a once-monthly salon gel manicure will cost you about $420 a year. With the $13 per color and $20 set of base…

Hey guys! Back with another real girl review, this one being the next in my series about gel manicure alternatives! If you haven’t seen my review of Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel, you might want to check it out! Using the costing from my last post, a once-monthly salon gel manicure would cost you around $420/yr. This product costs $11.96 for the color and $11.96 for the topcoat, so assuming a new shade every month and 2 bottles of top coat, you’re looking at approximately $170 before tax. This product is great. My sister has even tested the top coat with non-matched (not the Essie Gel Couture) colors and it still keeps your nails looking flawless for at least a week, if not longer. The above pictures are one week into wear. I kept this on for the full 14 days, and despite doing some weeding in the garden and carrying…

Hey guys! Today is something super cool for me, as I was involved in a campaign through my digital influencer agency and got the chance to provide an unbiased review about the L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara that recently launched! I was tasked to create a video on DubCandy (a social sharing app that allows you to watch videos and directly shop for the products mentioned, rather than looking for links) with my thoughts, which you can see below (depending on your browser, you may have to click a link): https://embed.dubdub.com/594d8b3562902e1200877501 I was really impressed with this mascara! I’ve been using it for a while now (the video was a first impression of the mascara), and I love that it doesn’t flake or smudge but still removes easily with my Garnier micellar water. I also like that the curved bristle brush kind of hugs the contour of my eye to grab…

Hey guys! I’m back with another real girl review today! Recently I’ve been trying out some nail polish options for longer wearing and “gel-like” formulas. In an ideal world, I’d be getting a gel manicure every month or so, but this is not an ideal world and girlfriend cannot afford that. I wish, though! Wanting a similar quality manicure with regards to durability and extended wear time, I have been trying some drug store options that promise lasting shine and long-lasting color. This first post is about the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel line. First of all, this polish is $9.97 for the base color and $9.97 for the gel topcoat. You don’t need a UV light for this product to work. A once-monthly salon gel manicure would cost you around $420/yr, whereas a monthly new shade of this product that promises to last 14 days would cost you around $140…
