Dieting, or making major life changes to be healthier, can be difficult enough to begin with. Add in that it can be isolating because often we make poor food choices when gathering as a group, and suddenly becoming healthier can become very lonely. One of my very best friends has been on a health and fitness journey for over a year (check her out over at Life as Alyx, she posts some of her healthy recipes there!) so when I ask her over it’s usually her “cheat” meal, but even so I try to provide her with options to make it a bit more healthy for her. I support you, so that means I support your goals, too, right? Recently she came and visited with another friend of ours and we were having a “celebration” dinner of sorts. I wanted to serve something decadent, festive and fun- but I…

Hi Guys! I hope the first week of 2017 is going well for you! Since this time of year is often when we want to focus on health and weight loss goals, I wanted to share my favorite salad of late! This is inspired by a salad my family had out for dinner one night (I wasn’t there) at a restaurant, that my mum then tweaked to her preferences and I am in LOVE. This salad is so stinking simple, and while it has cheese, it’s a small amount that feels decadent because you’re literally just shaving it in. This is fast to make but delicious and a total show stopper- and is SO affordable for a salad this time of year! I posted the picture below right after Christmas and people were liking it like crazy- so I knew I wanted to share with you. Tomato Basil Salad with…

I don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of athletic wear. Most days, I go straight from business clothes to athletic wear, or my onesie. The point being, I own quite a bit of workout wear and it ranges from expensive (looking at you, LuluLemon) to super affordable! This post is a bit of a roundup of my favorite accessible and affordable workout wear- Old Navy, Joe Fresh and Walmart. Everything is linked. All of these outfits are appropriate for hitting the trails, running some stairs or popping by the gym and cooling down after the fact. You’ll note that most outfits have a jacket or sweater- this is because I personally like to get outdoors when it’s cool at night. Joe Fresh While this option is the most expensive, I had to include it because of these super on-trend mesh insert leggings. Oftentimes I find going affordable is…

Hey guys, So today is the start of a new series on The Broke Girl Blog, one that is probably overdue but I just wasn’t ready to pursue it yet. It’s funny how you can come up with any excuse possible to not focus on your fitness a bit, and I think I’ve come up with them all. Here’s the thing, the totally honest thing: I’m an average human. Not fit, not deeply overweight, but somewhere in between. These days, though, it’s inching towards the overweight category. I know my mom is somewhere groaning, disagreeing with this but she’s bias and my work clothes (which mostly no longer fit) do not have any particular bias towards me. They just are the size they are, the size that’s being changed is my body. A decade ago, I was fit. I had an eight-pack and probably pretty low body fat with that…
