Time for another Real Girl Review! This time I’ll be taking a look at the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom palette. My sister recently got me this palette as a gift as a thank you for helping her out when Sylvie was very newly home and wanted to do nothing more than howl and cry. All night long.
Fun fact about me: I can sleep through pretty much anything. I can also fall asleep in some pretty ridiculous conditions. A howling dog? No biggie. My sister is a light sleeper, so when Sylvie first came home, so did I as her puppy au pair. Nobody can live on zero sleep! The fact that she had a sweet puppy to snuggle and love had a lot to do with it too. I’m obsessed with this dog, guys.
So, back to the point of this: my sister got me the Tartelette in Bloom palette and I love it! There are 12 warm shades in a variety of finishes to create any kind of look. The only thing missing is a black shade, but given that I rarely wear a smokey eye anymore, this wasn’t of concern to me.
But is the palette good value? This palette retails at $60CAD, and each eye shadow pan contains 0.053 grams, just slightly more than a Mac Cosmetics refill pan (0.05). This means the per-shadow cost is $5 for 0.053grams. Since the volumes are so similar, I’m going to do the price breakdown for a comparison between this and Mac Pro shades.
Each Mac Pro shade is $8, so a total of $96 for 12. However, you’d need a vehicle for these loose and unprotected shadows, so a large modular palette from Mac will put you back an additional $10. Creating a similar product from MAC would cost you approximately $109 dollars, and you’d be less about 3/4 an eyeshadow in terms of product and no mirror in the packaging.
If you compare to another pre-created product available at Sephora like the newly launched Too Faced Sweet Peach palette, you’re looking at even less product (.04gr) for $55 dollars. The total product amount for the Tarte palette is 0.636gr, and the Too Faced is 0.48gr. The difference between the two is 0.156grams, or just under 3 additional shades ($15 value) in the Tarte palette.
All of this math and comparison in mind, and how easily useable the Tarte Tartelette in Bloom palette is (seriously, it’s the perfect everyday or travelling palette), I’d say that hands down the Tartelette in Bloom palette is good value for your money!
